Tambour Doors: Benefits And Uses

Posted by Marie Riley 06/10/2019 2 Comment(s)

In this blog, we’re going to look at the many uses of tambour doors and how they can benefit your customers.

Tambour doors and cabinets are becoming increasingly popular due to their range of benefits and advantages. As a tradesperson, you should be stocking the very best tambour doors for your customers. Whether you design and manufacture kitchens, build and install office furniture or even convert leisure vehicle such as camper vans; you could benefit from offering tambour doors to your customers.

Uses Of Tambour Doors

Tambour units and doors are multi-functional and can provide a space-saving solution in a variety of environments.

Kitchens

Tambour units and doors are a popular element in kitchen design. For smaller kitchens with limited cupboard space, tambour doors make the very most of a small space. Also, in the world of kitchen design, it is now a huge trend to substitute some of the kitchen cupboards for open shelving.

Although this trend looks great and shelves are good for storage, it leaves the customer with fewer closed storage options. So, to make the most out of the few kitchen cabinets they have, customers are looking for space-saving solutions. Which is where tambour doors come in! Tambour doors are also good for making use of awkward spaces within the kitchen, such as a tight corner or rounded edge.

Leisure Vehicles

Whether it’s a caravan, camper van or boat, it’s safe to say that leisure vehicles are not known for having masses of storage space. If you convert, manufacture or repair leisure vehicles, you may be looking for ways in which you can make the most of the limited space.

Tambour doors are perfect for leisure vehicles. Their sliding doors work well within small spaces and they can turn even the smallest of cabinets into a helpful storage facility. Also, tambour doors will not open during transit, so your customers can be sure that their belongings are safe when they’re on the road (or sea!).

Offices

Tambour doors are a staple feature in many offices. Mainly because they provide ample storage space. But also, because they are secure. Lockable tambour doors bring extra security to any office environment and are suitable for storing anything from files to electronics.

Benefits Of Tambour Doors

  • Full Use Of The Cabinet – Because the doors slide open, customers can comfortably access the cabinet and can make full use of the space.
  • Doors Open Up Not Out – Tambour doors slide upwards (or sideward) rather than opening outwards like a cupboard door, which means they’re great for small spaces where there isn’t room for a door to open outwards.
  • Security – As mentioned before, lockable tambour doors are available to ensure complete security. Also, tambour doors won’t open during transit, unlike other cupboard doors.
  • Contemporary Design – Another benefit of a tambour door is that the contemporary design looks stylish and sleek. So, they don’t look out of place in any kitchen or leisure vehicle.
  • Easy To Install – Tambour doors may look complicated, but in reality, they’re super easy to assemble and install. Here at Fennel, our modular tambour door is a pre-assembled cartridge style system, which contains a pre-tensioned sprung mechanism, ready assembled for rapid fitting, even for the apprentice.

Hi Ruth Thank you for your question, which has only just come to our attention, therefore please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. We have white tambours in 1000mm width x up to 1450mm height which would work for your 100mm height however they won't fix between walls as you need to be able to fix the 18mm left and right hand vertical tracks to an 18mm front facing edge. Here is a You Tube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10v0sRsSt2g which explains how they are fitted and operate. Please don't hesitate to contact us again should you still require a solution. I hope this helps. Marie - Team Fennel

I'm wanting to know of its at all sensible to try and use a camper van tambour in a kitchen. They seem to be a fraction of the price, and I'm only wanting a cheap job to make a very old kitchen last a little bit longer until we are ready to invest in a whole new kitchen. Plmk your advice, and if you can think of another way of using a shall space but without the expense of a proper kitchen tambour unit. I had a proper one at my old house and it was the best thing ever! But I just can't justify the cost on this old utility that I'm trying to make into a useful space.

Hi Helen Thank you for your question, which has only just come to our attention, therefore please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. Camper van solutions might work for your requirement as they come are usually a more basic kit format so the cost tends to be much less than the higher end cartridge style. Usually they are a simple up and over solution so they dont tend to stay open partway, more often the door simply travels over the top and down the rear of the cabinet. Some styles offer a snail solution where the door rolls around into a coil. It will probably just mean a little bit of research for you in order to find the ideal size and operation for your space. I hope this helps Kind regards Marie - team Fennel
